There's No Competition in Law School: 1Ls

They have gotten together in groups and taken every fucking study room in the library to study together for the LEGAL WRITING MIDTERM.

We haven’t raised them right. This reflects poorly on us.

Actually, I think they have done us a favor. If they are this nuts at midterms, I'm sure they will have tents in the library for finals which leaves us no choice but to study at a bar, where, I have it on good authority, they sell booze. Such an opportunity also lets us get back to our study group roots, namely, getting drunk at Larceny’s while making hypos about Sandra selling crack and ass to middle schoolers.

Now that sounds AWESOME. Those crack hypos made me understand much better, and also laugh in the middle of an exam.

That being said, those little fuckers are crazy.

So the other day we had a 1L approach us to discuss what classes to take next year and he asked about classes that are hard for even 2Ls (future 3Ls) to get into due to the small class size (i.e. Negotiations, 12 people per class). To which we responded, “Oh, you won’t get into those classes, they fill up right away. We probably won’t even get in, and we get to register first. We couldn’t get into them last year either.” To which the 1L rolled his eyes at us and looked at one of his friends with a smirk on his face. (Can I just say that it took a lot from Larceny here not to smack that smirk off his face). They just don't get it.

All those classes he asked for and thought he could get into being closed with at least 10 people waitlisted by 8:03 am (registration was at 8:00am): Priceless.

We Came. We Were Snarky. We Disbanned.

The short story: we blogged pretty voraciously while in law school until halfway through our 3L year when law school drama interceded. We abruptly shut down, fearing exposure that would impact our full-time employment options.

Sometimes, there is, unfortunately, no humor in law school or the legal profession.

That was years ago. Since then, we're all gainfully employed. Of the LawBitches, one is a partner and two others are associates in small firms, two are solo practitioners, one works for the government, one is an in-house counsel, one work in non-traditional job in corporate America, and two are also adjunct professors at a law school.

The point is: we all survived. But if you ask us if we're happy? Or if we'd do it over again? Well, you'd get differing responses.

The bottom line: Before you decide to go to law school, be aware -- be very aware -- of what you are getting yourself into.
