Ahhhh.... registration. Good Times.

So the other day we had a 1L approach us to discuss what classes to take next year and he asked about classes that are hard for even 2Ls (future 3Ls) to get into due to the small class size (i.e. Negotiations, 12 people per class). To which we responded, “Oh, you won’t get into those classes, they fill up right away. We probably won’t even get in, and we get to register first. We couldn’t get into them last year either.” To which the 1L rolled his eyes at us and looked at one of his friends with a smirk on his face. (Can I just say that it took a lot from Larceny here not to smack that smirk off his face). They just don't get it.

All those classes he asked for and thought he could get into being closed with at least 10 people waitlisted by 8:03 am (registration was at 8:00am): Priceless.

Have fun registering!

your nonviolence worries me. you're going to be a lawyer. you need to learn how to punch people like that in the throat then make a solid self-defense argument.

First years...

Our school does a random lottery for classes, it's the dumbest fucking thing ever.

Registration for us was supposed to open at 11 AM a few days ago, but they accidentally opened it at about 10:58 official time. There are some 3L's who are absolutely livid because rising 2L's who were sitting in class at 11 hitting refresh filled up classes they've waited to take for an entire year.

The best part about registration is that no matter what system the school uses, drama is guaranteed because it's fucking law school.

Registration at my school is still dramatic almost 5 days later. At my school evidence, admin and legal profession are required, yet we have only 1 section of each of those classes being taught next semester and each is capped at 90 students. There are 350 current 1Ls who are eager to get the requirments out of the way ASAP, add to that the 100 current 2Ls who didn't get those requirments out of the way during their 2L year and you have a recipe for school wide mayhem. (luckily I got into all the classes I wanted- I literally hit jackpot and was assigned an early registration time- for awhile I kind of had a bit of "survivors guilt" but is it bad if now I'm not feeling so bad for everyone who isn't so lucky?)
