Library today: Vandalism in the library
A custodian recently found a copy of Ward Churchill's On the Justice of Roosting Chickens in a toilet in the men's restroom of the Library. The book had been taken from the library's New Books area and was dropped intentionally in the toilet.
This book and its author are controversial, but anyone hoping to deny the community of the possibility of reading it will be disappointed – the library will replace the book as soon as possible. The libraries hold the freedom to read as one of our highest values. To quote from the American Library Association Freedom to Read statement: "We, as individuals devoted to reading and as librarians and publishers responsible for disseminating ideas, wish to assert the public interest in the preservation of the freedom to read."
This, folks, is headline news at the University. Oh, the injustice. It's nice to know that the librarians support our first amendment rights to read though...

We have a prof that every time the law school sends out an announcement about a speaker or an event, he has to 'reply to all' and send us his take... a talk on the legal aspects of special education? Well here's a law review article that proves blah blah injustice blah racism blah educate yourself and read this and ask the panel blah blah... a talk on terrorism or 9/11 ... blah blah conspiracy... blah blah random Bush-bashing... blah blah law review article... if you consider yourself educated you'd blah blah blah.
Since this Churhill book is probably his bible, I would LOVE to have seen him go apoplectic over this desecration.
If you look hard enough for a conspiracy, you'll find one.
Didn't your library authorities consider that he might have been reading while doing his business, and it fell into the toilet?
I mean, industrial-strength toilets are quite powerful and fully capable of messing up books that accidentally fall into them.
